10 Things you should always have in your van

As a van driver, you will spend a lot of time out on the road travelling from one location to another. It is, therefore, a good idea to keep certain items in your van so that they are there if you need them in case of emergency, or if you need to stay in you van for an extended period of time.

Below we list 10 things you should always have in your van:

1. Small torch

Always keep a small torch in your glove compartment for emergency use. You can keep a larger torch in the back of the van, but a smaller one near the driver’s seat is handy to have in an emergency.

2. Spare change

Having a small zipped bag of small notes and loose change is a good idea. Once again keep this in the glove compartment of your van. This can be used for toll roads, tunnel fees, or if you are out and about with the family, for those unaccountable expenses.

3. A range of straps

Straps come in handy, so be sure to have a selection of

Voile, OSV and rack straps in your van. They can be used to secure large items that you are transporting while out on the road.

4. Sunshades

Always keep a selection of sunshades in the van that will fit on the side windows and rear window. This will help to keep any passengers cool should the sun decide to make an appearance.

5. Van broom or pocket vacuum

If you use your van for both work and family purposes, then you may need to clean it out while on the road. A van broom or pocket vacuum cleaner are handy to keep the floor and upholstery clean and tidy.

6. Bottled water

This should be a given, but always keep several bottles of water in your van. This will come in handy if you are stuck in traffic, or if your radiator needs an emergency top up.

7. Blankets and rugs

Always keep a selection of blankets, a travel rug and jumpers in the boot of your van. If the weather suddenly turns cold and you are stuck on the road, for whatever reason, then at least you will be warm.

8. First aid kit

You can buy relatively cheap first aid kits, or you can make up your own. Just be sure that it includes all of the essentials such as plasters, burns ointment, bandages, eye wash and cotton wool.

9. Activity box

If your little ones travel a lot in the van, then always keep an activity box that contains paper, pens, crayons and books.

10. Window breaker and seatbelt cutter

This item needs to be kept in the glove compartment or side door for easy access. If you are in an accident you will be able to escape from the vehicle.
